The Avatars Speak

Had a voice discussion in Second Life Sunday afternoon with three avatars, it seemed to go pretty well! Perhaps we should focus on voice in the afternoons, and the chat bar in the evening discussion sessions. Seems that we have been mostly focusing on Heidegger, although also discussing the influence of Kierkegaard. We have been covering a lot of ground, and the online interactions continue to bring out a lot of good ideas. I get the feeling that people are working very hard at home trying to keep up with the material. Having 5 time slots a week has helped bring more people in, and accommodate every ones schedules. Given the nature of the material, I am not sure we would have come as far without the chance to meet in Second Life as we have been!

Using voice exclusively today went really well. I think it is a very good idea to use text during our evening sessions and voice for the afternoon ones.

You can count me as one of those who is currently making a greater effort to grapple with this material. Our discussions are the catalyst for this and I come away from each feeling that I have learned something. Many interesting topics have been explored in depth while at the same time others just whoosh up.

If anyone has not attended a discussion in awhile I would encourage you to drop by again. I think you will find that many of the technical and logistical problems have been solved. I really believe we are evolving into the kind of discussion group that I think Professor Dreyfus hoped we would become.
